About US
Welcome and thank you for visiting my store.
Here, you will find one of a kind art, home decor and accessories made from vintage kimonos that are up to 90 years old.
I have always been fascinated by beautiful fabrics. My past travels have taken me to different parts of the world and allowed me to be in touch with traditional local fabrics that represent people's cultures and lives. For a Japanese person like myself, kimonos have always been a big part of my traditional culture and I only gained greater appreciation as I started to live away from them. However, the kimono is now only worn on very rare occasions, and its popularity has sadly been declining in Japan. These kimonos are made of high quality silk and their intricate designs are achieved through various weaving and painting techniques that are increasingly being lost to time. Their craftsmanship and artistry are something I love to bring to the world. So I decided to take a classic and beautiful part of my heritage and transform it into something new and unique that fits in our modern spaces and lifestyles.
All the kimonos I use are handpicked by myself with the help of my mother, who is an expert seamstress and is highly knowledgeable about the history and culture of kimonos. We try to choose kimonos that offer a unique design with a modern twist. All crafted items are handmade in my sewing studio in Ottawa, Ontario.
It gives me great joy to upcycle these forgotten gems and give them a second chance to be appreciated and enjoyed in other parts of the world. I truly believe that the mounting problem of textile waste can be combated by reusing gently used fabric to create new products. Japanese people often use the term "mottainai" to express regret or shame for things gone to waste. Along with my appreciation of the beauty of kimonos, my constant thoughts of "mottainai" have driven me to create this brand. I am proud to be a part of the sustainable fashion community.
I hope you enjoy what I offer here.
